A Serendipitous Saturday: From Mistake to Joy.

A Serendipitous Saturday: From Mistake to Joy.

A Serendipitous Saturday: From Mistake to Joy. When I, Paul, stumbled upon a remarkable twist of fate. You see, I intended to attend Reverend Leo Asuquo’s ordination, a pivotal moment in his life. Little did I know that a simple misunderstanding would lead me to an unexpected adventure.

It was a serendipitous Saturday. Although, the day had started with a mix-up in the date. The Sacristan had informed me about the ordination on Thursday, telling me it was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday. Eager to show my support, I had planned to arrive early. But when I reached the University of Uyo’s Town Campus gate, uncertainty crept in. I checked my phone gallery for the venue, only to discover that the Priestly Ordination was set for today, Saturday, the 23rd of September, 2023.

I faced a dilemma. Should I call the Sacristan and potentially disrupt their plans, or should I follow my conscience? Ultimately, I chose the latter. Turning back, I was almost home when a fellow Parishioner appeared on the scene. His presence was a lifeline.

Intriguingly, he informed me that the ordination had been back-dated to yesterday. The reason? Today, Akwa-Ibom State is celebrating 36 years since its creation in 1987. With blind trust, I joined him, and we arrived at the church by 9:00 a.m., well before the Mass procession began at 9:35 a.m. Our timing turned out to be perfect.

The host Parish for this special occasion was St. Joseph’s Parish Anua, along Nwaniba Road, Uyo. They were ordained by His Lordship, Most Rev, Dr John Ebere Ayah, the Bishop of Uyo Diocese. As I sat there, I couldn’t help but feel overjoyed. Not only had I witnessed an extraordinary event, but I had also reconnected with old friends from my Major Seminary days.

However, there was a twist. In my anticipation, I had hoped for the lively celebrations I was accustomed to in Issele-Uku Diocese – with food, dance, and music. To my surprise, it was the Catholic Women’s Organisation that hosted the festivities under their canopy. My pride kept me from joining them, lest I appear too eager or hungry.

Before I continue, there’s an intriguing aside. Just the day before, Happiness, a girl I had met at a nightclub, called me. She expressed her desire to visit me. I explained that I was headed to a Church program but promised to call her when I returned.

As I journeyed home after the ordination, my mind raced, thinking about where to take Happiness for a meal. It was then that the name “Chicken Republic” crossed my mind. A simple but delightful choice, I thought.

In this serendipitous tale, I, Paul, found myself caught in a whirlwind of events, from a date mix-up to unexpected joy. The power of trust, friendship, and the element of surprise transformed a seemingly ordinary day into one filled with profound experiences. Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it, and It is these moments that make our journey all the more exciting.
