Kogi Assembly Orders Removal Of Yahaya Bello From EFCC Search List

Kogi House of Assembly

The Kogi State House of Assembly has stirred up a storm by demanding the removal of the ‘wanted’ label placed on former Governor Yahaya Bello by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The decision was made during a heated plenary session. Nevertheless, this has sparked widespread debate and drawn attention to the ongoing saga.

Kogi State House of Assembly Ignites A Fiery Debate

In a passionate plea, member Jibrin Abu brought a motion to end what he described as a “smear campaign” against Bello. He vehemently alleged that the EFCC’s pursuit of Yahaya Bello amounted to witch-hunting. However, this has ignited a fiery debate within the assembly.

Kogi State, based on its allocation, is not wealthy enough for N80.4 billion to go missing without causing significant concern. Moreover, the EFCC’s assertion should be dismissed and seen as questionable. Nigerians and citizens of Kogi State who believed these claims should reconsider their support,” he remarked. The motion shed light on the gravity of the allegations and the urgency of the situation.

EFCC Should Uphold The Rule of Law

Former Deputy Speaker Enema Paul emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law. Nevertheless, he urges the EFCC to conduct its investigations in a manner that respects legal boundaries. Speaker Aliyu Yusuf echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for the EFCC to operate within the confines of the law.

“This House supports the EFCC in their duties. But they should operate within the confines of the law and not use aggressive tactics. The nation belongs to everyone, and we should all respect and abide by the law,” he commented.

Public Opinion and Political Ramifications

The assembly’s resolution has not only ignited legal debates but also sparked public opinion and political ramifications. The call for the removal of the ‘wanted’ tag has brought the spotlight onto the intersection of law, politics, and public perception, creating a whirlwind of controversy and discussion.

Furthermore, as the demand for Bello’s removal gains momentum, the unfolding events are set to shape the political terrain and legal discourse in Kogi State. The battle over the EFCC’s ‘wanted’ tag is far from over. Nonetheless, its outcome is poised to have far-reaching implications for the state and its governance.
